Josh Brolin Transformation for Upcoming Spike Lee Film

“Extra’s” Terri Seymour caught up with Josh Brolin about his upcoming film “Oldboy,” Spike Lee’s English-language remake of the classic Korean thriller, and learned how Brolin experienced dramatic weight gain and loss for his starring role.

Brolin opened up about the incredibly fast weight gain and loss he experienced to play “Oldboy’s” Joe Doucette, a man who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement, for no apparent reason.

Brolin on his physical transformation, explaining, “I was actually just dumb. The idea of it was great. And then doing it was really painful. We gained 28 pounds in 10 days…Which was not good, I mean really not good. It hurt. And then we had to lose 22 pounds in 2 and a half days…It literally hurt. People are like ‘Oh it must be fun and you get to eat all the time’…No, we were doing water weight, so we were figuring out ways just to hold the water as much as possible. I was like one big roly poly bloat. So I was happy to lose it. “

You can catch “Oldboy” in theaters on November 27th.
