Recently the Philadelphia Phillies and Macy's held a competition to find local designers who could design a new ballgirl uniform for the 2011 season. After many great entries, 14 finalist were picked including designer, Huy Tran of AmareSinh, which I've featured here on Fashion of Philly several times. On Thursday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m., the 14 finalist will get to show off their creations in a runway fashion show at the Macy's in Center City. The winning design will be selected by a panel of judges and special guests including the Red Phantic, of course! Free rally towels will also be handed out on a first come, first served basis. So come out and cheer on your local designers!

Did You Miss Me?

by Brittiny Stewart, 1:20 AM
Hello Readers! I realize that it's been almost a week since the last time I wrote anything and that is mostly because I've been starting some new projects. After my DIY - Turban Headband post I sort of got carried away. I whipped out the old sewing machine, which was my late grandmothers and still works perfectly, and starting creating all types of things! Altough my Mom had taught me how to sew soooo very long ago that of course I forgot everything but I think it's great to refresh my memory and teaching myself new tricks. I challenge everyone to learn something new this week wether it be learning a new recipe to playing a new video game. Just make life exciting! There's so much to see and do and learn and life is too short to waste so be safe and have fun!

This week I'll be posting some of the things I've been working on so stay posted.

AmareSinh - Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

in , by Brittiny Stewart, 9:02 PM
Even though Spring has hardly shown its face, looking at AmareSinh's Fall Winter Collection for 2011 has me in the mood for autumn days. "Amare" which means love in Italian and "Sinh" meaning birth in Vietnamese, come together to commemorate love, appreciation, and beauty for life. During Philly Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of meeting one part of AmareSinh, Huyen Tran, who is such a sweetheart. The fashion company consists of three siblings Huy, Huyen and their younger sister Sandy and together in August of 2010 they formed AmareSinh and they are off to such a great start. AmareSinh's clothing are sexy, edgy and sophisticated and are made to "enhance the architecture of a woman". The sleek designs are innovative and unique. Even though I would love to have every piece, any one piece would be a great addition to my or any woman's wardrobe. I can't wait to see what else AmareSinh has in store!

DIY - Turban Headband

in , , by Brittiny Stewart, 12:56 AM
Not that I need an excuse to get crafty, but March is National Craft Month and I've been wanting to make a turban headband thanks to an old Nylon Magazine tear sheet I found, so here it is. It was very easy thanks to this tutorial I discovered on GetCraftee.com. The only difference is I used Fabri-Tac permanent adhesive fabric glue cause I wasn't trying to drag out the sewing machine. The fabric I brought from JoAnn Fabrics was in the fabric remnant section and only cost $1.81!!! I love the fun polka dot pattern and bright color for spring. Next time I think, I'll try a more stretchy cotton in a tribal print.

February's "Stylist of the Month"

by Brittiny Stewart, 12:13 AM

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a design student, freelance stylist and wardrobe consultant from Buenos Aires living in Philadelphia.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is greatly inspired by menswear, its edgy, androgynous with a twist of bad-ass rocker chick, and sensuality. I am one to think that sexy is not in the amount of skin shown but in being confident in your own skin.

Where do you find your inspiration?
The beauty about inspiration is that, in my case at least, it can be found every and anywhere.  Watching a movie, walking down the street, meeting someone really chic, or simply looking at a landscape.

Where are your top 3 places to shop?
Barney’s co-op, great designers at reasonable prices, Forever 21, I always go there when I m in need of retail therapy, you can get a lot of great things for a ridiculously great price, Knit Wit a specialty Boutique in Philadelphia, does most of the leg work for you since they only carry selected items from designers’ collection and often small companies under the radar!

Who are your 3 favorite designers?
This one is tough because I do believe there is a lot of talent out there but here is my list. 1- Alexander Wang, he has been my biggest obsession for the last 2 years, his work is just so creative and fresh I can’t seem to get enough of it, specially since he came out with his T-line. He covers most of the edgy part of my closet. 2- Paul Smith, he has been on my top list for a long time, and never in those years has he disappointed me. His clever use of traditional tailoring as well as gender clothing is always evolving. He covers most of the menswear inspired portion of my closet as well as some cool accessories. 3- Stella McCartney, she is such a talented designer.  Her sensuality and relax aesthetics have always captured my attention, ever since she designed for Chloe. I think she can bring out confidence and sensuality out of anyone, and although I do not own anything from her yet, I look forward to the days I do!
What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is blue, however my go to color in terms of clothing is black.

What is your song of the moment?
My favorite song of the moment is Dog Days are Over by Florence + Machine
Where would you love to travel?
I would love to get to go to Sweden for the summer, we’ll see what happens!!!
