Our First Trip to Legoland

in , , , , , , by Fashion of Philly, 5:00 AM
Special thanks to LegoLand Orlando for sponsoring us tickets to enjoy the park. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

As many times I have been to visit Orlando, Florida, we had never made time to visit Legoland Florida. My son has always had a love for Lego and had collected many of their very detailed sets over the years, so when we surprised him with a trip to the land full of tiny bricks, of course he was very excited!

We usually go on our Florida vacation during the first week in November because for some New Jersey residents it is during the NJ teacher's convention, voting season, and Veteran's Day so the school district started to give the students the whole week off. Meanwhile in Florida and in other states most of the kids in are school so the wait times and crowds aren't as crazy as in the summer or other peak times. This gave us the opportunity to walk around and take our time in the different sections of the park.

One thing that surprised me about Legoland Orlando was the amount and variety of rides they had for every age group and trill seeker. My son isn't into rollercoasters so we kept things more on the mellow side. Some of his favorite rides were the Boating School and the Ford Driving School both found in the Lego City section of the park where kids run the world. They can even become a part of the rescue squad, put out fires and get their driver's license.

Another area Darius enjoyed was the Land of Adventure, made with the explorer in mind. The Lost Kingdom Adventure is a fun, interactive game the whole family could enjoy and compete for a high score in a battle for treasure. As parents, we were able to catch a break in a shady, cool spot while Darius ran around in Pharaoh's Revenge a maze with foam balls whizzing and flying through the air. We also had fun searching for animals on the Safari Trek! Watch our 360 video here

Another must see at Legoland Orlando is Miniland, USA! Over 32 million Lego bricks make up this amazing area depicting well known tourist attractions and big cities from around the USA and even a galaxy, far, far away with their Star Wars installation. We took turns guessing which cities were which and seeing what every Lego minifigure was up to. Some much detail went into creating every scene you could literally spend hours in there.

If you're wondering where you could grab a bite to eat while in the park. Try Pepper & Roni's Pizza Stop because who doesn't like pizza. (Plus they have a veggie option as well.) You won't be able to miss the singing Pizza Man MiniFigure standing outside.

We really enjoyed our visit to Legoland, Orlando. It was like a breath of fresh air and something new and exciting to experience. To see more on our visit to Legoland Orlando, check out my InstaStory Highlight here

Long Time, No Time

Hello Loves! It's hard to believe November is almost over! It seemed to go by in a whirl. If you follow me on social media, especially Instagram, you know that at the beginning of November we went on a family vacation to Orlando, FL! In the Sunshine State, we got to experience some new spots like LegoLand and visit some favorite places in Walt Disney World. I'll be sharing more on that within the following week. Once we got back from vacation, work life has been crazy. If you don't know, I also work retail full-time as an Assistant Manager and once I came back from a relaxing vacation is was time to prep for the Black Friday Madness! Not to mention the fact that I was moved to another store to help out during the busiest week in retail. I'm also working on my online boutique ShopFashionofPhilly.com adding new products and hosting a Black Out Sale for the Black Friday Cyber Monday Weekend with select style up to 25% off. Needless to say I'm pushing through and I'm ready to get you caught up on what's been going on. 2019 will be here very soon, 35 days to be exact, so let's make everyday count!

Join Black Bride Magazine and TresseNoire for The Natural Tresses and Dresses Bridal Soiree in SOHO NYC October 27, 2018 from 2 to 5 pm!  Over 200 guests will gather to discover natural hair & beauty styles that are unique to special occasions and weddings. These looks often require more extensive preparation or technique, along with the right styling products and tools to look picture perfect all day, in any weather or environment. This soiree is to show brides how to get the most out of these looks and introduce them to the people that can make it happen!

One of those people, just happen to be Celebrity Hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood! Leatherwood's styles have been featured on Issa Rae of HBO's hit comedy Insecure, Oscar Award nominee Ava Duvernay ("Wrinkle in Time" director), actresses Nicole Ari Parker, Teyonah Parris, Kimberly Elise, and countless entertainment executives, rising stars & beauty entrepreneurs. This event celebrates all of the priceless moments of the wedding experience - from Bridal Shower, to Bachelorette Party, to Wedding, to Honeymoon.

To help celebrate the upcoming event, I'll be hosting a ticket giveaway! Here's how to enter:

1. Follow @fashionofphilly@blackbride1998, and @tressnoire.

The 27th Philadelphia Film Festival is quickly approaching! Regular screenings will run you $15 ($10 for PFS members) and $8 for a weekday matinee before 5 ($6 for members).

Regarding American Independents and Documentary Showcase films, the Philadelphia Film Society has a free ticketing initiative, PFS ON US, that makes their programming available to all. Tickets are distributed to the public through a reservation system online found here.

Last Friday, I was invited to experience OktoberFest in Philadelphia at the 23rd Street Armory. This is the 3rd year for this event put on by Brauhaus Schmitz which mimics an authentic Munich Festival tent. When we first arrived the line to get in was down the street for both VIP and General Admission. Some attendees were dressed up in authentic German looks including lederhosen to get in the spirit of the event.

Inside, the 16,000 square foot building was decorated in Bavarian blue and white ceilings along with authentic festival tables and benches imported from Germany. When we first came in, we were greeted by a huge pretzel and a liter of beer from Paulaner Brauerei MΓΌchen. I'm not really a beer drinker, but their OktoberFest brew was very smooth. (I still can't believe I drank the whole thing!)

After we found a table, one of the many waitresses came to see if we needed anything, so we ordered some food. We both wanted to try the roasted pork, sauerkraut and potato salad which was very good thanks to Valentin Bay. As the night continued music from The Hematklange Band, got the crowd excited, singing and dancing along and standing on the benches and shouting was very much encouraged!

This was our first time experiencing OktoberFest in Philly and we loved it! It was a lot of fun, very interactive, great food, great drinks, and an overall great time. This event is good for meeting up with friends after work or just getting together on the weekends. People came from all over to be at OctoberFest Philly, my husband even met someone from Germany! OktoberFest Philly only comes around once a year, so next time get your tickets quick because it will sell out! I'll do my best to remind you ahead of time! In the meantime, "Like" Bauhaus Schmitz on Facebook to not miss a thing!

If you've been following Fashion of Philly since the early days, you know that every October, I feature a round up highlighting products found in fashion and beauty that contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness. This year, I decided to break it down into categories and this week it's about beauty. Some of the items that really caught my eye were the GlamGlow BubbleSheet Mask where 20% of the purchase price will be donate to the Breast Cancer Research Fund. Another product that is new to the line up is the RevitaBrow Eyebrow Conditioner and the RevitaLash ADVANCED Eyelash Conditioner. Both items are used to help fight bitterness and breakage in brows and lashes and to promote growth. With each purchase, RevitaLash will donate $2 from every sale to Breast Cancer Awareness Research and Education Initiatives, up to $50,000.

Have a product you would like to highlight during Breast Cancer Awareness month? Reach out to me on Twitter @fashionofphilly and let me know. I would love to hear from you!

Last night, we were invited to preview a new restaurant opening Wednesday, October 3rd at the King of Prussia Mall, North Italia. The restaurant is located on the outside lower level of Savor at the King of Prussia Mall across from Neiman Marcus. This area already had some of my favorite restaurants and now another one has been added to my list. It was a beautiful evening to dine outside, but we decided to take it inside to check out the surroundings.

The dining area is pretty big with seating arrangements for couples, booths for you and some friends, or larger tables for the family. (Check out their kids menu here.) There is also a bar with large television screens making it a great location to grab one of their amazing drinks and watch a game after a day of shopping. If you want more of a private setting there's a small meeting room that can be curtained off for small groups like business meetings and small parties.

I love restaurants that give you a view of the kitchen like this setting. I find it exciting to see the somewhat choreography of the kitchen and how the team works together quickly and efficiently.  The kitchen was hustling and bustling all night under the lead of Chef Travis, North Italia Executive Chef creating amazing dishes for their guests.

With that being said, let's talk about those amazing dishes and cocktails. To start our evening we each ordered a cocktail. I selected the Amaro D'Amici (Redemption Bourbon, Fernet Branca, Clover Honey, Bitter Trio) and Hubby had the Julietta (Ginger Infused Smirnoff, Vanilla, Fiorente Elderflower, Lime, Prosecco). Both cocktails were delicious with a slight citrus flavor. You can tell the ingredients were fresh and selected to enhance the spirits.

"Sensory Design" is the theme of this year's Philadelphia Design District events starting on October 6 'til October 13. The purpose of the PDD is to offer visitors a fresh perspective of design and art in Philadelphia.

Over the week, galleries and showrooms will provide unexpected and interactive experiences for "Sensory Design" that explore personal sensations such as sight, sound, taste, smell and touch.

The Kick-Off for Sensory Design will take place on Saturday, October 6, with an opening night, allowing visitors to discover and experience ten unique showcases hosted by the Philadelphia Design District members. Each will offer an interpretation of the theme and feature guest designers, artists and architects. Visitors will be treated to interactive performances, stimulating exhibitions, engaging demonstrations and fascinating experiences. During the rest of the week, PDD will also host other happenings to draw the design community to Old City.

Looking to facelift your home for the Fall? You'll want to stop by Homesense, one of the newest home decor spots to open in the South Jersey area. If you're not familiar with Homesense, it's in the HomeGoods, TJMaxx, Marshalls family and it's originally from across the pond a.k.a. the UK. Now they made their way over to the U.S. to share some amazing style and uniques finds with us.

If you love HomeGoods, you'll love this place too! This Homesense has it all and more. Looking for a beautiful, plush living room set? They've got plenty of options. Looking for the perfect gift? They have a one stop, shop gifting section. Want to add some unique touches to your dorm? They have the perfect pieces to show off your personality at prices that won't break the bank.

My favorite part about the store were the arrangements and a take away called "Homesense How To" to give you some great tips and inspiration on how to set up your home at a budget that works for you. You can also download them here. Another thing I enjoyed were the assortment of coffee table books. I love coffee table books especially about fashion, but they're usually so expensive, but at HomeSense I spotted some starting at just $9.99!

If you live in the Philadelphia area, be sure to stop by Homesense in the Moorestown Mall in Moorestown, NJ and update your home today! It's one of those stores you'll want to stop by again and again because new items arrive daily and you won't want to miss out!
Special Thanks to Mitsubishi Motors for loaning me the car for the week.
All thoughts expressed are my own.

So it's been a few weeks since my California vacation and I couldn't have been happier with being able to get around Southern California in style with the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SEL. When considering a vehicle, I had to have something that was good on gas milage, had great trunk space, and other features perfect for traveling.

If you live on the East Coast like I do, you may not have any idea just how high the gas prices are out in California. Typically in New Jersey, we are currently paying around $2.60 for gas, however in California, gas prices reach at least a whole dollar more. That's crazy! Thankfully, the Mitsubishi Outlander gets about 30 highway miles per gallon! Also with the ECO mode you can monitor your driving to get the most MPG possible. This was so helpful because there were times when I would actually see my MPG increase by the way I was driving. If you're considering a new vehicle this is such a plus because with the raise and slight fall of gasoline, you'll want to get the biggest bang for your buck.

When you're going on any vacation truck space is always a factor. No one likes having too much luggage and running out of trunk space. Granted, we didn't have a lot of luggage because we were trying to avoid checking bags, but there was plenty of room for more including groceries and souvenirs.

Let's talk about features. Two of my favorite features in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport are the 7" Touchscreen Display Audio System and the Panoramic Roof! When it comes to driving I like to be as hands free as possible. This car comes standard with an amazing touchscreen display that is AndroidAuto and Apple Carplay ready. This allows you to speak directly to your device through Bluetooth wireless technology to give commands like "Call Hubby", "Navigate to Disneyland", and "Text Mom, We'll meet you there". Sirus XM is an option to help you blast your favorite road trip songs through the Rockford Fosgate premium sound system so you create your own Carpool Karaoke moments.

And what's a vacation without being able to take in all the sights. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has a HUGE panoramic roof so you don't miss a thing! It glides from the front row to the back seats so that everyone can get a beautiful view of your surroundings. (In my case, it was the palm trees.) So cool!

Of course, there are some great safety features like the rear camera system, lane departure warning, and the forward collision mitigation, which I got to experience thanks to LA traffic. It takes state of the art features like that to help you feel safe. If you are interested in taking the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SEL for a test drive, visit MitsubishiCars.com to find a dealer near you. While you're there check out plenty more features that come standard on Outlander models and some special add-ons to make your car stand out.

Of course, to get most of these freebies you have to sign up to be on their email list or sometimes download their app, but you might find some of these worth it. If you like getting free things, coupons and little surprises then keep reading! Keep in mind that these offers change almost every year, so as time goes on I'll try to keep them updated. Enjoy!

Special thanks to The Void for sponsoring this post. All thoughts and expressions are my own.

During my recent vacation to Southern California, covering Disneyland was on top of my list and what's a trip to Disneyland without visiting Downtown Disney. If your not familiar with Downtown Disney, it's a spot on Disney property where you can experience a piece of Disney magic without going into the parks. While there you can enjoy exquisite dining, unique shopping experiences, and top entertainment. One of those entertainment attractions is The Void at Downtown Disney! There you can be apart of the Star Wars Secrets of the Empire a full sensory, immersive experience! This attraction takes you on a journey like no other to a galaxy far, far away.

This is a great experience for a family to enjoy with children over the age of 10, especially if you're a Star Wars fan! My son, Darius really loved it! If you ever thought about what it would be like to join The Rebellion and fight against The Dark Side, Star Wars Secrets of the Empire puts you right in the thick of it. It feels like you jumped right in the middle of your own movie! This experience engages all of your senses (okay, maybe not taste) to make this a fully enjoyable quest. You'll see some of your favorite characters from the Stars Wars films (not telling any secrets) and work together as a team disguised as Stormtroopers to travel to the molten planet of Mustafar. I think the most mind blowing part is there were moments where I totally forget that it was virtual reality!

I definitely recommend this as a must see/must do attraction and the best part about it is it's in both Disneyland, CA and Walt Disney World, FL, so no matter which area you visit, you can get in on the action! Planning your next trip to Disney? Buy your tickets online and pick a day and time that works best for you. I promise you, you won't regret it!
