For the start of 2011, I added a new page called "Stylist of the Month", but now that January is over I didn't want to just simply delete my previous stylist from the page so I decided to add them to my home page to be a part of Fashion of Philly forever. So without further adieu, I present to you Alysha Nett, a 23 year old, freelance model with an awesome haircut and stand-out style.

So...Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Alysha Nett and I currently live in Philadelphia. I was born and raised in Wichita, KS but moved to the east coast a few months ago. I'm a 23 year old free lance model and I travel constantly.

Describe your personal style.

I consider myself a very simple dresser. I like simple pieces and I wear a lot of black. I also love to layer and dress everything up with a great pair of shoes.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I get inspiration from the people around me and that I meet throughout the country. I like to blend the styles I see into one of my own.

Who is your favorite fashion photographer?
I really love Terry Richardson's work. There are many many great fashion photographers out there but I think he really changed how people view fashion photography right now. His style is very raw and I appreciate how be blends fashion with erotica to create a style that is very much his own.
What’s your top 3 places to shop?
h&m, forever21,
List three of your favorite designers.
alexander wang, zac posen, alexander mcqueen

What’s your favorite color?
my favorite color is neon/lime green, however my favorite color to dress myself in is black
What do you splurge on?
Do you have any advice for other fashion stylist out there?
let the clothing speak to you. be creative and draw inspiration from everything.

If you love Alysha's style, like me, check out her cool blog, her lookbook profile at and follow her on!

If you are a stylist and would like to be featured as the "Stylist of the Month" email, subject: Stylist! Can't wait to hear from you!

I Gotta Have This!

Girly Chic Kit $25.00
At first glimse of W Magazine's February cover I thought actress Rooney Mara had a name tatted across her chest, but with later reading I found out that it's FAKE! How? Well, there's a company called Temptu, that not only creates realistic tatoos using airbrush and stencils, but also professional airbrush make-up. I'm usually the one that pays $10 for one of those cheesy temporary tattoos at theme parks that only last for 2 -5 days, so I gotta have this! The company has also created the tattoos for Beyonce's 2010 Dereon Campaign, which are also available for purchase on These alcohol-based tats range from $5 - $25 for a pack depending on style and can last for up to 5 days if taken care of properly. They're also hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested and approved, waterproof and sweat-proof. I'll be sure to post pics when I test it out!

Tee Time

by Brittiny Stewart, 9:54 PM
Me and my niece, Alexis had wayyy too much fun creating this post. We both have a love for graphic tees. They're always fun, eye-catching, and let's not forget comfortable. Best of all you can wear them year 'round. In the winter, I love layering my tees with cardigans, hoodies, and blazers or in the summer with a pair of denim shorts, a floral skirt, or as a bathing suit cover-up.  We picked four of our favorites to share with you. Enjoy!

On My Shoe Box

Thinking, Pondering, Wondering
Okay everyone excuse me for a sec while I release some thoughts. Recently I've been little discouraged with juggling motherhood and building my fashion career. Sometimes I feel like being a single mother of an active, very opinionated, two, but almost three, little boy and starting a career in fashion just don't mix. For one thing, both can be very demanding, but since cloning is not a option, something gets sacrificed. In most cases it's not the child, but the dream, the career, the opportunity. Although those goals can still be reached, it may take a little longer then first planned, which can be very frustrating. It also doesn't help that the economy is a piece of crap even though I keep hearing promises of it getting better.

Chillin on Vaca
I know there are plenty of single mothers out there in the fashion world or in any working force that can do it all, but it seems like they are already, I guess you can say, established before starting to raise a family. If you don't time things right, it can make climbing that ladder ten times harder, unless, of course, you know the right people, which is a big part of this industry or any industry, but that's another subject for another day. At times I feel like there are some fashion jobs that probably won't even consider hiring you if they knew you had a family and that could be the reason why it's wrong to ask such questions during an interview. It's a constant battle because I love my son, but I also want us to live comfortable. By all means, I try to think positive and not be so hard on myself, but sometimes it just gets to me.
My Stylish Lil' Man
Don't take this as a sign of me giving up or slowing down, I just needed to vent and get some things off my chest. For all those mothers juggling their career, achieving their dreams, and seizing the opportunity, hats off to you!

Child's Play - Willow Smith

Being the daughter of Will and Jada, Willow Smith is definitely a young star on the raise. Not only does she have the acting bug in her genes, with roles in I AM LEGEND and soon to appear in a Annie remake in 2012, and recently releasing her first single, "Whip My Hair" under Jay-Z's ROC Nation label, but she's also got some serious style. Willow has even designed some of her own pieces, so I won't be surprised if sooner or later the title fashion designer is added under belt. Check out some of her fun looks from the red carpet to big name fashion mags.

Bag Lady

in , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 6:19 PM
In the past few years, I've found myself being a lover of vintage designer bags. I don't have a huge collection, but here's just a few of mine that I love and would like to share.

As every one knows, Anna Wintour, is a major influence in the fashion world and her background is amazing! One summer I stumbled upon the bio of Anna Wintour at a rummage sale and I had to buy it. The book written by Jerry Oppenheimer entitled, "front row - Anna Wintour: The Cool Life and Hot Times of Vogue's Editor in Chief", takes you on a journey through Wintour's childhood to her years at Vogue in September 2004. Reading this book helped me understand the demeanor of the stone faced lady with the blond bob and how she got to be the woman she is today. After reading the book, peep the movie (if you haven't already), The September Issue, a film by R.J. Cutler, to get even more of an insiders look on what is called the Fashion Bible. I missed my first chance to view the movie when my class went to see a private screening with the one and only Andre Leon Talley. Of course, that was the one day I happened to not go to class. Big Mistake, Huh!?!

If you did see the movie or read the book, what are your thoughts on either one?

California Dreaming

in , by Brittiny Stewart, 9:22 PM
My Chilling View

Lately in the NorthEast region (and recently down south) we've been getting pounded with snow. This is crazy being that's it's only early January. I'm scared to see what the rest of this winter has up it's sleeves. It's not like I mind the snow, as long as it doesn't stick, but when it does it can cause delay and cabin fever. Living in a Winter Wonderland can only lead to California Dreaming. On my pass trips to the Golden State, I've experienced rainy days (which barely happen) and a 6.8 earthquake! But there's still something about Cali that makes me not want to leave.

Recently, my friend Miriam went on a vaca to L.A. Of course the weather was beautiful and so were the people in postcard settings you wish you could just jump into. Not only did she bring back cute clothes, but also these inspiring pictures that I wanted to share with you. Too bad she couldn't bring the warm sunshine with her. Oh well, Enjoy and Dream On....

I'm Addicted to You

My Nylon Tear Sheet

I've recently come to the conclusion that I'm addicted to fashion magazines. Even though we now have so many resources on the web to turn to for the latest fashion news, I'd still rather my hard copy. There's something about getting a new magazine in the mail or at the counter that is exciting, fun, and almost calming. To me, they're not just picture books, but fashion encyclopedias full of ideas and information. At one point, I was almost hoarder status saving stacks of magazine like they were an inherited treasure. Now, I just tear out the pages I like and preserve them in plastic sheets in a nice big three ring binder, which serves as a great source for inspiration whether I have blogger's block or just trying to find something to wear. As we speak, I am now waiting to further feed my addiction with my new subscription to W and Harper's Bazaar. What are some of your favorite magazines?

Elle tweeted this morning that the biggest mall in America may be coming to Bergen, NJ between 2013 and 2014. Since it will be competing with the Mall of America in Minnesota, which has tons of attractions like its own roller coaster, the Xanadu Mall will have a theme park, snow park, bowling alley, movie theater, tons of restaurants, oh and stores of course. Plans are still in effect, so i'll try to keep you posted. Sounds like a weekend getaway to me!
