On November 30th, I stopped by the sweet boutique, Sugarcube, for the first time and was very impressed.  With walls lined with vintage styles from independent designers such as Tea and Honey, Lyel, and Found Denim as well as your well known favorites, there's no doubt you'll find something you'll love. The boutique is a great environment for men and women with a super friendly staff and also has a small art gallery featuring local Philadelphia artists. Opening in 2004, this locally owned boutique, has definitely made their mark on Boutique Row in Philadelphia. Located on 124 N. 3rd Street, this shop is surely worth stopping by.

My Black Friday Review...

by Brittiny Stewart, 12:50 PM
Sooo.....I went out Black Friday to see what all the hype was about. I've only done the whole wake up before crack of dawn thing once and I think I was in junior high. We had woke up to try to get one of those game boy systems, but that failed because Wal-Mart only had like ten in stock. But this time around, the usually camped out Wal-Mart opened at midnight having pity on their customers. The only deals withheld from the late-night shoppers were the electronic specials. They had a take a number according to what gizmo you wanted and camp out in the aisles til 5 a.m. when the electronic deals were available. Which seemed like a somewhat organized but still confused mess. There were no signs or anything letting customers know where to get your number, what line is for what, and how much the items would be. In fact, it didn't seem like any of the specials were marked so not really needing anything anyway, we left and went to Cherry Hill Mall.

The mall wasn't that bad. being that only about six stores were opening at midnight. The only store I saw worth going into was the Disney Store, not just because it's just a cool store but they also had some pretty good deals. Select items were on sale and the whole store was an additional 20% off! The other stores like American Eagle and Aeropostale were open but it didn't seem worth it to shop that early just for their 20 or 30 percent off the whole store events because they give out coupons for that amount year round anyway. So all in all, as you see, I wasn't that amused with the deals that I saw. Next year, maybe I'll have a better turn out and try the outlets.

Joan Shepp Designer Event 11/27/10

by Brittiny Stewart, 1:43 PM
Saturday, November 27th, Joan Shepp will be hosting a Designer Event featuring Costume Jewelry Designer and Artist, John Wind. His Miximal Art Collection, founded in 1985, is full of vintage inspired, modern ornaments with a hint of Victorian glamour. Wind, a Philadelphia native, studied at the Slade School of Art in London and started his collections based off the frequent trips he took to the markets in Paris. There he would purchase special pieces, take them apart, then rearrange them in his own way. His one of a kind treasures gained much attention and became permanent fixtures of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. His work has also been seen in Oprah's Gift Guide, Instyle and Country Living Magazines.

Jeantrix.com Launches Tomorrow

by Brittiny Stewart, 11:52 AM

The dynamic duo of Jeantrix is all but normal with their in your face, attention demanding couture designs. To describe them in a few words: Grunge, Rock Star, and Three-Dimensional. Philadelphia designers Nyce and Homm founded Jeantrix in 2003 after becoming bored with the norm of everyday fashions. Now their work can be found in magazines such as Life & Style, Elle, and Harlow. I also wouldn't be surprised to see their creations on pop stars like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, or Miss RiRi in the future. Tomorrow Jeantrix adds another milestone to their career by launching Jeantrix.com. Be sure to check it out because this team is quickly on the move.

Fur Real or Not So Real

by Brittiny Stewart, 1:53 AM
Over the pass few years I've noticed a big turn over when it comes to fur in the fashion industry. At first I thought fake fur was mostly for those of two categories: the animal lovers or the fashion lovers with not enough funds. It now seems though, that fake fur (and leather) are appearing in a lot more places then before. More and more stores like Express are carrying the leather (minus the leather) look or eco-friendly furs. I feel that a lot of this fake fur and leathers revolution has to do with the whole eco-friendly movement. If you want to save the environment, you must want to save the animals.

Now another factor comes to mind....Quality vs. Quantity. Do the fake goods have the same quality as the real goods and are they price accordingly? Most of the faux furs and pleathers are starting to look more appealing and almost believable but they are starting to cost as much as the real goods. Over the last few weeks my two sisters were on a mission searching for the perfect pair of boots. The rules: No fakes over $50 and no leather too high pass $100! Every mall, department store, and discount shop was combed through and finally they found their treasures. One of them found leather Ralph Lauren riding style boots for only $90, originally retailing around $300. Some may argue that if you buy the fake stuff at low price points you can save money and buy more styles, while others my say all you need is one good leather pair and your good. Me, on the other hand, I like to mix it up, but whatever your choice, whether it be real or faux, and for whatever the reason just remember to look good while doing so.

La... La... Lanvin (Loves) H&M

by Brittiny Stewart, 12:52 AM
Do you remember the madness of last year's Jimmy Choo Holiday H&M collab??? Well this season H&M is teaming up with the fab Parisian brand of Lanvin to bring a fun, chic collection to the table. Dating way back from 1867, this brand has a long line of fashion history in its blood, designing everything from men's, women's, children's, home decor, bridal, fragrances, and haute couture.
The collection debuted on Thursday night in Pierre, NY with a fashion show designed to copy a 1920's french club. Celebrities like J. Lo and  Madonna came out to get a first glimpse of the collection which included jackets, pant suits, and funky party dresses paired with animal print hosiery. For us regular folks, H&M stores will be opening at 8am on Saturday, November 20 and every sale will come with a special designed garment bag with paintings done by Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. Dresses range from $199 to $249, men's suits $299, coats $149 to $249 and accessories like sunglasses for $19.95. But sorry Philly the closest stores that carry the goodies are in NY or DC so maybe you could make it a fashion road trip.  AU REVOIR!

Welcome to Fashion of Philly!!!

by Brittiny Stewart, 8:25 PM
Fashion of Philly was created to unite the fashion lovers of the Philadelphia tri-state area. Even though I'm from South Jersey, I visit Philadelphia a lot and had spent 4 years at the Art Institute of Philadelphia right in Center City. While going to school for fashion marketing, I was able to realize that there are many talented people interested in fashion and there were many events going on in the city that dealt with fashion including Philadelphia Fashion Week but the knowledge of some of these events were lacking. With that in mind, I thought it would be great to have a site that was fully dedicated to the fashion in Philadelphia and thus Fashion of Philly was born!

Okay, so here's a preview of what to except:
  • On the Street
    • A section of mostly photos showing either the current trends of the fashion world or just popular trends noticed here in Philly. (and yes Philly has their own trends)
  • Events
    • This would focus on fashion related events happening in Philadelphia and the tri-state area including but not limited to fashion shows, store openings, and other happenings
  • <3 This
    • This is a section featuring places I love to shop, eat, or just go out and chill that I think everyone should check out.
  • Student Lounge
    • A place where students can showcase their fashion designs, model pics (clean photos please), sketches, or anything else creative.
  • "SMH" of the Week
    • For all those "Wat is she (or even he) wearing?" moments.
Since this blog is about uniting the fashionistas of Philly, I welcome everyone to feel free to contribute and email me anything related to any of those above topics at stewartbrittiny@gmail.com. I cant wait to hear from you!!!
