Philadelphia Fashion Incubator

Tuesday, December 13th was a day for making new changes and that change is in the fashion world of Philadelphia. At Macy's in Center City, a press conference was held to talk about the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator. It is the 1st of its kind and many supporters of the project came out to the event that is in hopes of becoming a resource for the fashion industry. Urban Outfitters is one of the projects main sponsors and other Philadelphia based companies. The goal of the fashion incubator is to bring more and better retail in center city and to become a nurturing environment for fashion businesses. The project took 2 years to complete going back to September 2009 with the focus being towards the city of Philadelphia retail and fashion collection. Mayor Michael Nutter spoke about the project and stated that the city recognizes fashion and wants to invite other businesses to be apart of what Forbes Magazine names the 6th best city for fashion. Lisa Cunns who is the executive producer of the project spoke as well and is determined to make Philadelphia the number one best city for fashion rather than number 6. Fashion exists everywhere and the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator will make fashion become an essential part of our lives.

Walk the Talk Event

Saturday, December 10th was a celebration of the art of fashion and accessories at the Walk The Talk event in Philadelphia. The event was a collaboration of Young Hip & Chic, Can Ya Heel Me? And Showroom77 that brought in a plethora of artistic people. The event was beautiful: fashionable clothes, stylish accessories, amazing food, giveaways, and free shoes! This was a great networking event for models, fashion designers, and artists. The event shined light on the importance of bloggers and their impact on the media. Bloggers from Philadelphia, New York, DC, and New Jersey came out to the event. One interesting thing was the fact that this event was the idea of 16 year fashion blogger, Tweety Elitou of Young Hip & Chic! She is the youngest fashionista in Philadelphia who is making BIG moves. She is very inspiring and doing events like the Walk The Talk is only the beginning for her. She embraces her culture and has a strong passion in fashion. Overall, the event was a great experience and just being around unique people with the same passion was a blessing in its self.

From the Studio to the Street

I once heard that the one thing that can make you more confident about working out is what you wear while working out and with Lithe Studio + Street fitness gear your confidence will go through the roof. Created by Lauren Bogg Goldenberg, founder of the Philly craze workout, Lithe Method, and local designer Bela Shelu, this line of fitness apparel adds streetwear style to create fantastic pieces suitable and stylish enough for an intense workout. The line includes tank tops, tunic dresses, ballet-inspired wrap tops and leggings that combine lace, vegan-friendly leather, and mesh detailing with high performance fabrics designed with slenderizing cuts to ensure both comfort and style. The pieces range from $40 - $125 and they are all locally made right in Philadelphia. I'm honestly a little lazy on the fitness end, but wearing Lithe Studio + Street fitness gear would be a great source of motivation.

You can pick up Lithe Studio + Street at their Rittenhouse (The Medical Tower 255 S. 17th Street, 4th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 215.545.5144) and Old City (219 Cuthbert Street, 4th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19106 215.625.4919) Studios. For more information on Lithe Method check out lithemethod.com and read more about the founder, Lauren, on her blog at fithiphealthy.com

Mitchell & Ness Private Party

Last week, Mitchell & Ness hosted a Private Party at their flagship store in Philadelphia. QuestLove kept the music bumpin', mixing the original sounds from samples we hear today in about 99% of music. That just goes to show you that what's old becomes new just in a different, more modified way, similar to what the Mitchell & Ness Brand is all about bringing nostalgic sports apparel to a more modern design. Check out some of the pics below and for more about Mitchell & Ness, check out them site at mitchellandness.com.

Each week in September, AmareSinh hosted a Style Collage Competition entitled Who Would Wear It Best? On the first week, they gave away a pair of black harem dress pants and surprisingly my collage won! Jason Wu x Target

Look out for the next Target designer collaboration featuring Jason Wu sometime early 2012. The rumors had finnally proved true this morning when the designer told WWD, “My collection for Target features clothes and accessories that are easily convertible from day to evening—sophisticated, feminine dresses, mix-and-match separates and playful accessories all with a bit of charm and dressed-up attitude.” I'll surely keep you up-to-date on more details about the collection, but in the meantime check out the video below.

Update: A look at the first relaeased sketch!

Muppet Mania

How fitting it is that OPI and Opening Ceremony do a collaboration with the Muppets? In the movie, which hits theaters November 23, Miss Piggy works as an Editor-in-Chief at French Vogue sporting an Anna Wintour-like blond bob. Miss Piggy may be just a Muppet, but let's face it her wardrobe is pretty fierce. She's "walked" down tons of red carpets and has worked with so many designers including Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu and has even released a top selling fragrance in 1998 for Bloomingdale's.

This November, OPI will launch a collection of 12 nail polish colors inspired by the fuzzy, fun creatures, with names like "Gettin' Piggy With It", "Fresh Frog from Bel Air" and my favorite, "Rainbow Connection". Each polish will be priced at $8.50 and will be sold online starting in November.

This past Fashion's Night Out Miss Piggy herself paid a visit to Opening Ceremony to celebrate the launch of their collab. The collection of t-shirts ($45), buttondowns ($180), sweaters ($230), and hooded sweatshirts ($65), offered for both men and women, are sold on-line and in-stores. Each design shows off the stylish Muppets wearing who other than, Opening Ceremony.

Mitchell & Ness Fall 2011 Preview

The Mitchell & Ness Flagship Store hosted a preview party for their Fall 2011 Collection and now with the football season being back on, sports fans couldn't be more excited! Mitchell & Ness may have started out in Philly as a golf and tennis company back in 1904, but now it holds exclusive licenses from the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA.
Inside the Mitchell & Ness Flagship Store is Eagles Country

For 2011's  Fall/Holiday season, the collection includes vintage inspired professional athletic league uniforms in updated modern cuts, fabrics, and details for both men and women. Some of the styles include: Track Jackets with contrast color stripes and piping, Hooded Sweatshirts featuring rich details such as Sherpa lining and wooden buttons, and Vintage Tees perfect for layering in distressed washes and jersey inspired styles.

Some very Exclusive Limited Edition Items in Display Cases
The preview party was sort of an eye opener for me. Most of the time when I though of sports apparel and didn't think that it could get this in depth, but each Mitchell & Ness piece is unique to that season and not mass produced compared to a jersey you can find at your nearest Foot Locker or for us ladies, as a part of Victoria's Secret sports apparel collections. My favorite is the Women's NFL Post Season Hoody (pictured below in the top right corner). It has the 70's flair that is so on trend for this season.

Check Out the Lashes
A few weeks ago, I got lash extensions done at Max Lash Studio and I absolutely love them. They look sooo natural, that I don't think most people know they're not mine. SAVA Fashion Show

Last Week SA VA Boutique held a Fashion Show and Community Street Fair in conjunction with The Philadelphia Collection. SA VA is a groundbreaking clothing and accessories brand that is built on the platform of effortless, individual style and social consciousness. Based in Philadelphia, the brand is comprised of a flagship store and design studio at 1700 Sansom Street. SA VA is locally made, globally inspired and community based fashion. Ninety percent of the garments sold at SA VA are locally made in their adjacent Garment Center always with fair trade and often eco-friendly textiles.

The show entitled, Rediscovered Roots, featured some of the brands newest items from their Fall Collection on a outdoor runway that took over the 1700 block of Sansom St. There were other vendors from the neighborhood including Papilio, a new store opening soon specializing in tights, leggings, and swimwear and Square 1682, who provided delicious hor' d'oeuvres like my new favorite goat cheese and dates wrapped in bacon, YUM YUM!!! Through out the night, electronical violinist, Caryn Lin, entertained the crowd with her skillful music making and raffles were up for grabs to benefit the Susan G. Korman Foundation.

Fashion's Night Out Recap

Fashion's Night Out has come and gone and I'm already looking forward to next year. The King of Prussia Mall had events happening all over and it was hard to make them all. My favorite was the Fashion Show that was held in the Nordstorm's Court featuring designs from Neiman Marcus to Pac Sun, Kate Spade to Betsey Johnson.

Tito's Handmade Vodka and Philly2Night.com teamed up to serve some yummy signature cocktails while Morton's Steakhouse passed around hors d'voures. I also ran into a few of my fellow bloggers Sabir Peele of MensStylePro and Marcus Branch of SKLTN Magazine, who was also one of my featured Stylist of the Month for April along with some other stylish people. I hope to see you there next year until then make sure to check out The Philadelphia Collection Events from now til September 24th & Philly Fashion Week!
