Quick Dry Nail Tip

in , , , , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 12:50 PM
If you've been following Fashion of Philly on Instagram you'll notice I've been painting my nails a different color every week. This week I chose this awesome color called All Hail The Queen by Butter London. It's a cool mix of brown with hints of grey that reminds me of cinnamon and sugar. For me, the worst part about painting my nails is the drying. I'm so impatient and usually end up with some type of dent or something. Then my niece gave me a great tip! Spray cooking oil on your nails after you're done, then wait about minute or two and dip them in cold ice water for about another minute, (Yes, it's cold, but I'm sure you can handle it.) and you're good! Just remind to pat dry and not rub to let the polish set better. Try it for yourself and let me know how it works for you!

Check out our footage from the H&M Grand Opening at King of Prussia Mall! Our videographer did a awesome job capturing the excitement, fun, and fashion of the event! It seems like my son Darius had a great time too! Enjoy!

Recently, I read a great book by Eco-friendly Beauty Expert Sherrell Dorsey entitled Eco-Glamorous. I enjoy the read so much, I decided to follow up with an interview with the author herself. Check out what's in her make-up bag and how you can have a more organic beauty routine! Enjoy!

Fashion of PhillyHow long have you been in the beauty industry and how long have you been interested in organic beauty?

Sherrell Dorsey: I got my start in the beauty industry about 6 years ago when I began an internship at beauty brand AHAVA North America. Since then I've worked in beauty public relations and began my career in organic beauty when I went to work for a skin care line start up back in 2009 that was focused on natural and organic ingredients.

FoP: What inspired you to write Eco-Glamorous?

S.D.: Eco-glamorous was a natural transition for me and allowed me to condense the wealth of information from my blog into a an easy-to-read ebook. I wanted everyone who was familiar and not so familiar with Organic Beauty Vixen to be able to learn the basics about toxic cosmetics, ingredients to avoid and safe brands to find.

FoPWhat products are always in your make-up bag?

S.D.: That's easy! There are three things that I refuse to lose. That's my 100% pure mascara, my LAMIK powder foundation and my Tarte cosmetics smooth applicator concealer.

FoPDo you have any special projects you're currently working on?

S.D: I have a few things in the works for 2013 but everyone will have to stay tuned. Let's just say I do a lot less sleeping these days...

FoPWhat are some of your favorite beauty looks for the season?

S.D: I'm really into up do's and protective styles this season. My hair is color treated and already very naturally dry so keeping it hydrated and tucked away during harsh weather is ideal. Check out my favorite look here!

FoP: Do you have any Eco-beauty icons?

Summer Rayne Oaks
Solange Knowles
S.D: I go ga-ga for Summer Rayne Oaks style. She's an eco-model and true to the game eco-beauty lover. I also love Solange Knowles who has natural hair. Her style is absolutely breath-taking and inspiring.

FoP: What advice would you give someone looking to transition into the Eco-Glamorous lifestyle?

S.D.: Start small! Switching over your routine doesn't have to happen all at once. Learn something new and apply it. Try swapping out your traditional mascara for a mercury-free option.

Also, a great way to transition is to begin shopping at stores that offer more eco-friendly and sustainable options. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods,, and many other natural based stores in your area make shopping for essentials quite simple and accessible.

FoP: What are all your social media links?

S.D. : You can chat with me on twitter at, Instagram and facebook

FoP: How can people purchase your book?

S.D.: You can get my book on Kindle or download it simply by purchasing on Amazon:

When I was extended an invitation to the Second Annual Breakfast at Tiffany's in Philadelphia, the first thing I thought about was Audrey Hepburn, followed by "What am I going to wear?". As much as I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I have never seen the movie, I did recall that iconic look. The classic black dress, those elegant gloves, and that beautiful necklace. So I decided to go with one of my favorite black dresses from Michael Kors, a white blazer and a silver body chain to add a little edge. The event was refined and full of class. The breakfast was delis and champagne was just right. Guest were encouraged to try on pieces from any of their gorgeous collections and after mixing and mingling, we all left with a very special piece to take home. It's was an experience I will always remember!

Giving Tuesday

in , , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 12:23 AM
Okay so I know everyone's familiar with Black Friday, Small Biz Saturday and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday? Starting this year, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to include alternative gifts that are simply about giving and giving back. By purchasing a gift through Heifer International, you can help combat hunger and poverty among families in dire need. You can choose from things like a flock of ducks ($20), a family farm care package ($72) or even help someone launch their own business ($365).

The charity reaches 42 countries including China, Nepal, Brazil, Rwanda, Armenia, and the USA. Based on the simple idea of giving families a source of food rather than short-term relief, Heifer has given millions of families the gift of self reliance and hope. This concept really puts a true meaning to the saying, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Last week, I watched Oprah's Favorite Things on the OWN Network and drooled a little when she went into the Michael Kors store and picked up these beauties. My love of shoes includes sneakers and these definitely grabbed my attention. I always had a love for Michael Kors (Hello, I interned there!) and I can now say these are some of my favorite things, too!
Check out this adorable video, Electric Holiday featuring one of my favorite characters Minnie Mouse! I'm a huge Disney freak and when I heard about the movie, I just knew I had to see it, but thanks to one of my favorite bloggers, Garance Dore, who posted a link to the movie, I don't have to run to NYC right away. There are more than a dozen cameos in the short film so test your knowledge to see if you know who's who.

Love Thy Boots

in , , , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 5:43 PM
Boot season is in full affect. It doesn't matter if you're wearing Ugg's or Frye's taking care of your boots is very important. Here's five tips to help your boots look and feel great all season long!

  1. Protect! - Whether you're wearing leather or suede protecting your investment is highly recommended. For suede, I suggest using a water and stain repellent from Penguin. Spray your boots prior to wearing them and let them sit over night. A bottle usually cost $5 which is cheaper  when compared to buying most protecting sprays made especially for shoe brands.
  2. Keep Them Fresh! - Poo-Pourri makes an awesome shoe odor eliminator called Shoe-Pourri ($12.95) that has been scientifically proven to de-stink smelly shoes. They're so confident in their product that they offer an unconditional money-back guarantee if you're not completely satisfied!
  3. Shape It Up! - Don't get rid of those 300 page September issues just yet. Use them to stuff and shape your boots. Simply roll the magazine and stuff inside to lose those folding ceases. Of course, you could also keep them in their boxes if you have enough room in your closet.
  4. Revive Your Favs! - Everyone has that one pair of boots you just can't get rid of. So what if you've worn the heel down to the core, find a local shoemaker and replace the heel. This way you get to hold on to the boots you know and love a little bit longer.
  5. Brush & Polish! - Give your suede boots a good brushing every once in a while to loosen the dirt from the surface. For leather boots, buy a polish to keep them looking shiny and new. If you'll be on the go this season, check out La Fresh Travel Lite Shoe Shine Wipes. These wipes are small enough to fit in your wallet, airline carry-on friendly, and require no dry time!
What are your favorite tips for taking care of your boots? Share them in a comment below or on our Facebook page!

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Liv's Lips $30
This lipstick may seem too dark for some, but it actually reacts to your pH balance when applied to give you that perfect berry shade for your skin tone. It's almost like getting your own very personal lip color.
The Chain Hobo by Conrad Booker
Architect, artist and designer, Conrad Booker, recently debuted his new handbag brand at Bus Stop Boutique. This season's collection, "Hardwear", is all about contrast; Mixing metal chains with soft leather, silky tassels with silver rings and black exterior with brightly patterned linings. All items are handmade in Philadelphia and feature bold shapes, beautiful finishings,  and those little touches we all love like interior pockets, peek-a-boo linings, and self-locking clasps. With this collection, Booker transforms unexpected materials into elegant and edgy accessories. I especially love the "Chain Hobo", sleek, roomy, and classic.

You can find more on Conrad Booker on and shop his collection at Bus Stop Boutique, 727 South 4th Street, Phila. PA.

Prime Example

in , , , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 9:00 AM

Recently I have become a huge believer in skin primer. I find that when I forget to use it, my makeup doesn't last throughout the day. At the Philly FABB event, my fellow bloggers and I were gifted the SkinPerfector Pigment Correcting Primer from Dermablend Professionals. Not only does it prepare your skin for makeup, but it also helps correct imperfections like age and sun spots, skin discolorations and acne scarring. It's totally safe for your skin under every clinical test and is good for all skin tones. Even thought its fragrance-free, I personally love the green tea like scent, how smooth it goes on and most importantly how it helps my makeup last all day. It will cost you $45 dollars for a bottle but I feel it's well worth it.
Go to to check out more of their products!

Before heading out on my vaca to sunny Florida, I got to attend a very lovely evening celebrating the first get together of the Philly FABB Members. Philly FABB is a premiere network of fashion and beauty bloggers of the Philadelphia area. Each member is personally hand picked by Lauren Mantilla of The Style Darling and Jessie Holeva of I must say that I feel so privileged to have been chosen among the other fabulous bloggers and I had a great time getting to know them. Also this event couldn't have come at a better time because Sandy took out my power for a week, which explains the "bad hair day" hat.

Ever since I added the Beauty Page, it drove me crazy how I wasn't able to enable comments after every beauty post. Getting feedback from my readers is very important to me so I had to figure out a way to make it happen. It took some time, but of course I feel that it's well worth the effort. So feel free to let your voice be heard. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you!

Spanx Grand Opening in King of Prussia Mall

by Brittiny Stewart, 11:57 AM
Spanx, the reshaping phenomenon is now about to take over the retail world by opening their second in a series of three stores on the East Coast in the King of Prussia Mall, Friday, November 9. The shop is located on the upper level, near Lord & Taylor and offers fans an interactive way to shop the brand. Founder, Sara Blakely, who will be making a personal appearance, says, "The Spanx store at King of Prussia will be a place where everybody knows your name ... and bra size!"

The celebration starts at 10 A.M. with a hosiery ribbon cutting, special remarks and a check presentation to Women's Way, a non-profit organization in Philadelphia that helps tackle the region’s most pressing problems by leveraging grantmaking, public education, and advocacy initiatives to respond directly to community needs. The first 100 fans to arrive at the store on opening day, November 9, will receive a complimentary Spanx product from the Tower of Power, which houses packaged Spanx products from shapers to pantyhose ranging from $26 to $38. Spanx Brand Ambassadors will be handing out Shaping Spree Cards ranging from $10 to $100 throughout. (While supplies last.) If you would like to receive a Transformation consultation from their Transformation Team call (610) 337-1068 to schedule ahead. I hope you'll be able to check out this fun, unique event.

I got to stop by the Warby Parker Class Trip Bus while it was in town on Market Street. I loved the way the inside of the bus was designed almost as if I was in a really cool traveling library. People got to hop on, try out different frames, and get to know more about the brand. Taylor, Samantha and the rest of the team were there to answer any questions passers-by might have. My son had tagged along and entertained himself by trying on a few pairs himself and acting as the Tiny Professor (check out his page on the Warby Parker Class Trip Blog here). My favorite pair was the Webb in Crystal Matte which I plan on ordering as soon as I get back from vaca. To learn more about the Warby Parker check out my previous post here and, of course, on

Before the craziness of Hurricane Sandy, I got to attend a networking event hosted by Philly PR Girl, Kate Marlys. It was nice to meet people from all different industries talking and exchanging business cards as well as ideas. It was hosted at Xfinity Live, which was an awesome location for a networking party. The place is huge with get drinks, good food (if you go try the rock shrimp) and great people. Have you been you before? If so, what did you think?

A Special Thanks

in , , , by Brittiny Stewart, 12:29 PM

I want to take this time out to send a special thank you to a somewhat invisible person of Fashion of Philly, my photographer. Although he is unseen and sometimes unheard, he has a major impact on the site. If you think about it, most fashion sites are about 70% photos 30% text because visual impact is a huge part of blogging. A great picture could make you click on a link or keep it moving and I honestly feel our hits have grown because of those pictures. When you think of taking pictures, you may think of just a simple point and shoot, but it's much more than that. It's about choosing the right angles, catching the right moments, and doing just enough editing to make it perfect. So what I'm trying to say is THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK!!! To check some of the great pictures of Fashion of Philly go to our Tumblr page.

Hi all! Today was unexpectingly crazy! You know how you have those days where you have everything planned out in your head and then half of those things get thrown out the window? Yea, it was like that! On my way to the mall to look for iPhone cases I caught a nasty flat tire. UGH! After about 5 minutes of asking myself what to do, I decided to try changing the tire myself. And guess what? I did it without googling a how to video or even breaking a nail! YAY ME! I felt so empowered and felt the need to tell everyone, the guy at Pep Boys, my family, some people I met at a networking event later that night... Anyway, I guess now I want to pass on the great news to you. Also if you drive, I suggest you learn how to change a tire because believe it or not several people drove by me and my son (who was in the car watching movies on the iPad) and nobody stopped to say anything. Once I got over the shock of it, I realized maybe it's a good thing no one stopped because then I wouldn't have learned that I can change a tire.

By the time all that was said and done, I hurried home changed and got on my way to a Networking Event hosted by Kate Marlys, the Philly PR Girl at Xfinity Live. It was lots of fun and the rock shrimp appetizer was delis. I also had the chance to meet some of my readers, local designers such as Jannette Rochelle of JRochelle Designs, and follower bloggers. So even though there were some obstacles yesterday, I did just what my pin from pinterest says, "Keep Calm and Sparkle"! Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Anne Klein Leo Legacy Polo Top $69
Anne Klein's Pink Leo Legacy Polo Top is a part of their Breast Cancer Awareness Collection along with the Breast Cancer Awareness Bracelet, the Leo Legacy Printed Polo Dress, and the Animal Print Leo Legacy Polo. All of these styles you can shop online or at the Philadelphia Flagship Location on Walnut Street. Anne Klein will make an individual donation of $50,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I decided to straighten the place up a bit by changing/adding some new pages. You can now check out shops and boutiques around Philadelphia area in the Philly Shops section. Weather it's a grand opening, a favorite spot, or discovering a hidden gem, this page is dedicated to helping you find that perfect place to shop. I also added the Fashion Trends page which is where you'll find the latest and hottest trends happening around the fashion scene or seen locally in the Tri-State area. I'm so excited about the additions and it just makes me wonder why I haven't done this before. Well, I guess that's because there's a time and place for everything and I guess now is that time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Best Wishes,

I've just discovered a new, fun, and addicting way to shop online. is a virtual boutique showcasing the latest undiscovered brands and up-and-coming designers. You can shop from categories such as: jewelry, accessories, bags & purses, home decor, housewares, gifts and organization. When you first go to the site, you're presented with what seems like a shopping game. Merchandise featured on Obaz appears and you are given the option to want, buy, or pass. If you click want, you may find hidden special limited time offers, discounts, and other exclusives for the site. You can also share your wants through social media to spread the word.

Glamrock Two Finger Ring $16.99

Each item has its own shipping standards, returns are fast and free as long as it's within the seller's guidelines. One reason I love shopping on Obaz, is that after you create a free account, you can go back and view all the things you want under its on tab. Another reason, which is also my favorite, is that there is always something new added everyday at great prices. This increases the impulse to buy because what you see today, might not be there tomorrow. Trust me, I learned firsthand. With only a limited number of certain pieces available,  I jumped on my first order, which I love, a Glamrock Two Finger Ring from JiCreations, but after another visit to the site I found a Love Rhinestone Bracelet from PinkHeart Accessories that I just had to have. (Don't judge me, I just love accessories!)

If your in the market for something new and unique, why not check out today and see what you can discover!

It can be hard to drag yourself out of bed on a dark fall morning. If you oversleep or are in a hurry, it's still possible to make yourself look amazing! Since fall fashion isn't fussy and immaculate. Fall is all about warmth: warm colors, warm clothes, and most of all, the warmth that overflows from a person who loves and cares about others. Being open and sharing your life with other people makes you glow in a way that no clothes or makeup can. So drag yourself out of bed and put on something awesome. You never know what the day will bring!

An effortless outfit that looks both polished and comfortable is a pair of skinny jeans and an over-sized sweater. A pair of boots or wedges adds sophistication to the look, or comfortable loafers keep it casual. Almost any type of sweater will work: Long cardigans are elegant and easily accessorized, baggy sweaters with a cowl neck are more dramatic, and chunky knit pullovers are the very definition of comfy. Scoop neck sweaters and sweater vests are perfect for layering with a button-up shirt, be it flannel or fancy. Mixing and matching different sweaters and jeans lets you pull together interesting outfits in no time, since the basic formula is so forgiving.

The key to pulling off a simple outfit like jeans and a sweater is by adding terrific accessories. Think about your clothes as a way to highlight some of your favorite pieces. A statement necklace is the perfect complement to a layered cardigan and skinny jeans. Dramatic earrings accentuate unusual necklines. Wear glitzy chandelier earrings with a shawl collar sweater. Brooches are often overlooked, but find an interesting one to pin to a simple sweater and you'll be getting compliments all day.

Colored denim and an over-sized sweater is just one of the many gorgeous styles to wear this fall. Though don't forget: A warm smile on a chilly day does more to make a woman look beautiful than any fabulous outfit can. Work your outfit from the ground up with the perfect pair of shoes and strut your stuff this fall season. Be your confident, vibrant self, and try to make other people feel as terrific as you do and you'll be turning heads wherever you go.
