Kate from Philly PR Girl, Alice of DalaBooh.com, and I
I was so excited to be blogger ambassador again for the 2nd annual Preakness at the Piazza event benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It means so much to me especially since my mother is affected by this illness and I really appreciate everyone that came out and had a great time with us.

At the start of Memorial Day Weekend, we were invited to experience something new and exciting happening on the Delaware River! PinotBoutique, a wine and accessories shop in Philadelphia, introduced the Sunset Wine Cruise aboard The Patriot, a reproduction of a classic 1920’s commuter yacht. Each cruise is a one hour wine class with gourmet cheeses along with an informational tour of the historic boats and ships you might find along the waterfront.  Just think about how fun and relaxing it would be to sip tasty local wines while enjoying the beautiful sunset and overlooking Philadelphia’s awesome skyline.

My visit to the Oakley store in the King of Prussia Mall was beyond impressive. Never have I learned so much about a brand in just one visit. In addition to a wide variety of sunglasses, the store carries both men's and women's apparel as well as prescription eyewear, that you can customize according to your mannerisms. Speaking of customizing, in store your can create and take home your very own personalize sunglasses. (You can see me doing this in the video.) If you haven't stopped by the Oakley store in the King of Prussia Mall, pay them a visit! You may come out appreciating the brand and it's values a little more.

  1. Dawn Patrol Long Triangle Surf Siren Top $48 Bottom $44 - Not only does this swimsuit have SPF protection, but also sand resistant lining. Say no more.
  2. Tech Mesh Tunic $48 - This tunic makes for a great beach cover up.
  3. Oakley Feedback Sunglasses $160 - I love these sunglasses!!! They have snag-free adjustable nose pads, so you'll never have to worry about getting your hair stuck in your glasses again.
  4. iPhone 5 Case $40 $19.50 - This is not your average phone case. It uses Oakley's Unobtainium technology for a sure grip that actually enhances with the moisture of sweat.
  5. Women's Performance Duffel $100 - From the gym to a weekend getaway, this duffel is all you need. Best of all, it has a specially lined, heat–safe pocket to store your styling tools separately from your gear.

Last week was a bit of a busy week for Fashion of Philly so I didn't get a chance to post something for The Beauty Diaries so here it is. My latest hair experience was with The Gold System created by Oprah's Emmy Award Winning Personal Hair Stylist, Andre Walker. As I had explained in previous posts this month, my hair is in its natural state or not relaxed so I've been trying to find fitting products that work well with my hair type.

The Andre Walker Gold System consist of four products: The Ultimate Moisture Shampoo ($18), the TKO Ulitimate Moisture Conditioner ($22), the Get It Straight Styling Creme ($22) and the Beautiful Kinks Styling Creme Gelee ($22). I love the packaging which is a beautiful gold and dark brown with the words Make Peace With Your Hair on the container with peace signs. All of the products have a natural, fresh and clean scent, not at all fruity or overbearing. All of the products contain a Natural Mongongo Oil Blend and three out of the four products are for dry, course or kinky hair, while the Get It Straight Styling Creme can be used for styling all types of hair.

Now that the unofficial start of summer has begun, we need to really get in the habit of protecting our skin. Skin health has become a growing concern these days and we all need to protect ourselves from harmful sun rays. It really doesn't matter how light or dark your skin is everyone should use sunscreen! Here are some interesting facts to consider thanks to Neutrogena:
  • We tend to under-apply sunscreen by up to 75%
  • One in five Americans will develop some type of skin cancer in their lifetime
  • SPF matters – while the difference between the amount of UV rays blocked by SPF 60 vs. SPF 30 is slight, UV exposure will accumulate over a lifetime

“I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Millennial Central for Whish Body. I received a promotional item and Whish Body samples to facilitate my review."

If you're not ready to give waxing a try. There is a new alternative to the traditional shaving products we're used to. Whish Body creates luxurious shaving products made of natural ingredients without any sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, TEA, and DEA. These products are also made in the USA, packaged in fun Earth-friendly containers and of course, not tested on animals. I received both the Shave Crave and the Shave Savour in the lavender scent which is light and pleasant, not at all chemical smelling like most shaving creams I've tried. Both products are available in six different yummy smelling scents like blueberry, coconut, lemongrass, pomegranate, lavender and almond.

Summer just isn't summer without a dip in the pool, so be prepared to be swimsuit ready with a wax treatment from European Wax Center. With over 550 locations and rates ranging from $9 to $60 per service, there's something for everyone no matter your budget. Now is the perfect time to book your first appointment because not only can first time guests enjoy a complimentary brow, underarm or bikini line wax, but if you book an appointment and bring your mother, European Wax Center will treat her to a service for free in honor of Mother's Day Month!

Summer Essentials #1

Who's ready for Memorial Day Weekend to kicks off the summer season? The boardwalk gets some traffic, the grill gets fired up and everyone is ready for some fun in the sun. This week we're going to make sure you're prepared for the summer with the basic summer essentials you'll need, not just in fashion, but in everyday life.

Skai Blue Media had invited us to a night of shopping and fun at the Ted Baker press preview event in the King of Prussia Mall. The new store carries a beautiful assortment of styles for men and women and even accessories. In the store design, you'll find bells and bell ropes in the layout paying tribute to Philadelphia's own Liberty Bell. To tie in their British roots, lyrics about the bells of London from the English nursery rhyme "Oranges and Lemons" are found decorating a feature wall.

Global fashion retailer, UNIQLO will be opening 3 stores in the Philadelphia area this spring and in fall 2014. The first store to open will be in the King of Prussia Mall on May 16!

Luxury car services have been on the raise in the Philadelphia area. The newest one to hit the town is Black Lane car services. I recently used Black Lane to get to an event in Center City, Philadelphia. The major differences I noticed with Black Lane and other car services is that the cost of your trip is calculated by either the distance of your trip or an hourly rate so there's no hidden fees. Another thing that impressed me, is that they even come to Jersey!

To continue our hair edition of The Beauty Diaries, this week we're going to be talking about Agadir International's Argan Oil products. I received their complete collection of Argan Oil International products which I recently used to style my hair. As I said in last week's post, my hair is natural, meaning without a relaxer and I'm trying out new products to strengthen and style my hair.

Double Time
Welcome to May everyone! For this month's Beauty Diaries were going to be focusing on hair! Recently, I've been styling my hair without a relaxer, which has been so far, so good, but summer is coming which means more humidity. Humidity is not good for hair, especially if you're trying to wear it straight without a relaxer. So I've been looking for different alternatives and hair care to get me through the season.

This week's #FashionFriday post is focused around Preakness at the Piazza! An upcoming event benefiting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It's a night dedicated to raising funds and awareness to help win the fight against this chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system and effects thousands of young adults each year. Last year's event was unstop fun and this year they're taking things to the next level. Like last year, guests can enjoy a buffet of delicious food and tasty drinks, but this year they have the chance to do it as a VIP which includes a private food and bar area with its own "mixologist"! Also added in 2014, there will be a Preakness at the Piazza Fashion Contest with special guest judges: Maria Papadakis of philly.comSusie Celek of Skin PaletteSeun Olubodun of Duke & Winston, Natalie Egenolf of Sportsradio WIP & Phillies Nation and plenty more surprise still to be announced!

At first when I thought of the Kia Soul, all I could think about were those hamsters. (Those commercials will probably be forever be imprinted in our brains.) Once I was asked to take the 2014 Kia Soul for a test drive, I decided to approach it with an open mind and I was really surprised. First off, this car is truly for the music lover! The Infinity sound system is probably the best I've ever heard in a car! I'm not sure if it has something to do with the shape of the car as well, but whatever it is, it works! While we're on the topic of sound, let's talk about the speakers. They come with two fun light settings: one that pulses with the beat and another that changes different colors randomly. What better way to set the mood for a night out!
