Dari's Picks: A Visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Over spring break, I wanted to take Darius on a trip to visit one of the great museums in the Philadelphia area. So we choose the Philadelphia Museum of Art. On the first Sunday of every month, it's Pay-What-You-Wish so that was an added bonus. If you want to do this, make sure you get there early because there was quite a line to get in, but not so crowded inside.

I remember when I was younger, my mom would drag me to the Art Museum and I could've cared less, but now of course I love it.  Even more importantly, Darius seemed to really enjoy himself. I let him know how to read the title of the artwork and who it was by which made it more interactive for him.

His favorite part of the visit was seeing the Arms and Armor section. He thought is was really interesting to see the children's body armor and all the helmets, swords, and horse gear.

Dari's Top 3

1. Horse and Man's Armor (pictured above)
2. The Japanese Tea House makes you feel like you're in Japan.
3. The Dragon sculpture from China in the Asian Art section

If you're looking for something fun and exciting for kids to do on the weekend or during summer break, plan a day and visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You might be surprised at how much fun your child has.
