Stephen Burrows has been called the first black designer to achieve international acclaim. After graduating from the well known Fashion Institute of Technology, he began making clothes for O Boutique in New York City. In 1969, he launched his ready-to-wear collection with New York Department Store BonWit Teller, where his designs caught the attention of many, including the creative director of Henri Bendel. Burrow was given his own studio in the basement of Bendel's which was named Stephen Burrow's World, where he stayed until Bendel's was sold. After years of uncertainty, he came back to Bendel's with a collection that received worldwide attention.

Influenced by music, dance, and curves of the body, Burrows looks are soft, comfortable, chic and have been known to use a range of colors and techniques to create a close fit, slim silhouette. With more than 40 years of designing under his belt, a list of Coty Award Nominations (1971 -1974 and 1977) and the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2007, it's no wonder his client list includes names like Cher, Diana Ross, Taylor Swift, and Heidi Klum. Burrows fashion is still going strong and is being sold in fine stores around the world and carries several brands: S by Burrows, Everyday Girl, and SB73.

"Measure of success is how you meet the challenge. If you have a dream follow it and never give up"… Stephen Burrows
