Black in Fashion - Cookie Johnson

Cookie Johnson, wife of NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, has always had a strong interest in fashion. She attended Michigan State University where she majored in Retailing of Clothing & Textiles and also worked in retail as a buyer. In 2009, she started her own denim line, CJ by Cookie Johnson, after becoming frustrated with not being able to find a pair of premium jeans to fit her body type. By collaborating with co-creator Michael Glasser, she was able to design denim that was made with a little more room in the thighs and back as well as being tapered in the waist. By using up to 40% more stretch than in normal jeans, CJ by Cookie Johnson vows to the best fitting, premium denim for women with curves. Fans of line include Angela Bassett, MC Lyte, Sheryl Lee Ralph, wife of Denzel Washington, Paulette Washington, and wife of Cedric "The Entertainer", Lorna Kyles. The line, ranging from sizes 2 to 18, is expanding to include not just jeans but leggings, trousers, and knits and can be found exclusively at Nordstorm's and nordstorms.com.

  1. I've heard nothing but good things about CJ by Cookie Johnson. I have yet to try them myself, but looking forward to doing so very soon. I love that she has jeans for all sizes!
