Weekend Getaway: Hershey, PA

Special thanks to Hershey for partnering with us on this post!

This weekend was the perfect opportunity to getaway and do something exciting. So we decided to head out to the sweetest place on Earth, Hershey, PA! I haven't been out there since 2010, so I was excited to see any new changes and old favorites that happened over the years at Hershey's Chocolate World. It's a great place to visit with the whole family, especially in the off season, when their amusement park isn't open.

We drove up on Friday night after booking a room at La Quinta at a great deal thru Expedia. (Lately, Expedia has been my go to for booking last minute weekend trips.) The La Quinta we stayed at had great reviews and was located about 7 miles away from Chocolate World.

From the minute you walk into the building, you're hit with the amazing aroma of chocolate! Once inside, there's plenty of activities to choose from including a free chocolate tour ride to a unique chocolate tasting experience.

One of my favorite memories from this place is the Hershey's Chocolate Tour Ride and it has received a major upgrade since my last memory. One thing that stayed the same though, is that the end of the ride, which takes you through the history of Hershey and how their amazing chocolate candies are made, you receive a free, yes free, piece of candy! And here's a little secret, you can get a free treat every time you get on.

If you're looking for a bite to eat while spending the day at Chocolate World, there's a whole food court with tons of flavors to choose from, some that include Hershey's Chocolate! Speaking of which, may I suggest the White Bean Chicken Chili (pictured below) made with Hershey's Cocoa! It was amazing!!! (P.S. I really need that recipe.)

Next, we enjoyed the 4-D Chocolate Mystery, a fun, interactive show taking you on an adventure to help solve a mystery at the Hershey's Factory. I'm sure you're little ones (and you adults) will enjoy it.

Ever wanted to build your own chocolate bar? Well, want no more! At the Create Your Own Chocolate Bar station in Chocolate World, we were able to pick what type of chocolate, what you want to fill it with, and most importantly, with sprinkles or without sprinkles.

Of course, no getaway is complete without a souvenir and there's something for everyone in Hershey's Largest Candy Store. The word "large" doesn't just describe the shopping area, but the size of your favorite Hershey's candy, including this 1lb package of Reese's Peanut Butter cups.

(This is just a coin bank b.t.w.)

My family really had a great time and we already want to go back again when the amusement park is open, but until the weather gets warmer, this is a great way to hold us over. I would definitely recommend this trip for adults as well as families with children of any age.
