Local Rum Tasting at Striped Lion Distilling

If you love rum and want to support a black-owned, local business then you'll want to continue reading. Striped Lion Distilling, founded by married couple, Kevin and Erin Wright, have turned their love for rum into a business. After collecting rum for the past fourteen years, it has fueled a passion to learn more about the production and process. The distillery is located in Woodbury, NJ and is currently open for tours, tastings, and product sales.

In February, I went with my sisters for a tour and tasting. We made reservations ahead of time on their website stritedlionrum.com, which is highly recommended due to covid restrictions. The walking tour is $10 per person and includes 3 samples: unflavored/unaged, flavored, and aged. The tour was great because we got to see the actual distill, barrels, and get a more detailed presentation about how the process works. If you're not interested in the walking tour, you should still reserve a table for drinks.

At the table, we ordered seasonal cocktails. Since it was February, the one I had was called Cupid's Rose. Currently, they are offering new spring cocktails, which is a good reason to keep going back. Even though they do not serve food, they did have complementary snacks to have with our drinks.

Before heading out, we made sure to stop by their shop to take home a bottle. I purchased a their Citrus rum made from 100% organic American molasses and citrus peels. They also make a Cocoa, Cinnamon, and Overproof Rum. And no matter the flavor, all of their rums contain no artificial colors, flavors, or ingredients.

If you are interested in visiting Striped Lion Distilling, they are currently open Friday for retail sales and Saturday and Sunday for tours. They also offer cocktails to-go! To make a reservation or find out more information, visit their website https://stripedlionrum.com/reservations/. I really hope you get the chance to visit, support and enjoy!
