The Quest of the Apps

I recently joined the world of Apple by investing in an iPad and yes I think investing is the right word because I can think of so many ways the iPad can improve and enhance Fashion of Philly. After watching dozens of commercials on what cool things it can do with rows and rows of apps avilable for downloading, I sometimes feel at a lost of what to really download. So here's where you guys come in. I already downloaded the fabulous style.com app which is a must have for every fashion lover, but now I want to know what's your favorite fashion app. Feel free to share any of your favorite fashion apps in a comment below. Thanks in advance!

SXSW...Coachella...Ultra...

It's that time again and every year I don't know what's more exciting to see, the performances or the fashions! Even though I've never been to any of the SXSW events, I find myself youtubing performances, clicking through tumblr pages finding out who went and what they wore and of course any other celebrity gossip that goes with it.

Each year it seems like more and more brands are recognizing the impact this beyond-cool concert is having in the music and fashion world. Last year, they debuted Style X, a free, open to the public event featuring emerging designers, artists and pop-up shops that will take place March 16-17, but if you can't make it don't fret, Brooklyn Industries has got you covered. Designed for any summer concert in mind, there are 4 styles for the guys and 3 for the girls. Ranging from $24 to $34 these graphic tees are innovative and fun without breaking your wallet. As for going to SXSW, just think, it's never to early to plan ahead.

The Designers-In-Residence Program at PFI

Thursday, March 1st was the official launch date of the Designers-In-Residence Program at the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator in Macy's Center City. Modeled after a similar and successful program in Chicago, the purpose of the fashion incubator is to help support and promote the careers of local fashion designers from some of Philadelphia's nationally recognized fashion design schools including Moore College of Art, Drexel University and Philadelphia University as well as the fashion community. Among the special guest invited were Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Terry Lundgren, Macy's Inc. Chairman, President and CEO and Paul Levy, Center City District President and CEO.

Each year PFI will feature 4 annually-selected Designers-In-Residence (DIR), who will have access to office and design/work space, a showroom, curriculum, mentoring from industry and business professionals and other important resources within Macy's to help launch and expand their business in Philadelphia. This will not only contribute towards the economy in Philadelphia, but also improve the creative image of the city. “Fashion in Philadelphia is bigger and better than ever. We’re proud to be a city that recognizes the value of its vital creative sector and invites innovation. Philadelphia’s exceptional schools produce impressive fashion design talent and we’re thrilled to support independent entrepreneurs and start-up companies through programs such as The Philadelphia Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Center City,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter.
